One of the key advantages of ECI is the ability to bring construction knowledge into the project during the design phase rather than after documentation has been completed.

A Practical Example
A recent project delivered for Mater Private Hospital demonstrates the value of this approach.
Premis was engaged under an Early Contractor Involvement arrangement during the design phase of a six-theatre upgrade project. Working alongside the client, architect, services engineers and end users, the team was able to review the proposed design, test construction methodologies and identify risks well before work commenced on site.
In a live hospital environment, where operational continuity is critical and there is very little room for error, these discussions are particularly important.
The early involvement also enabled detailed programming, stakeholder coordination and planning around hospital operations to be established from the outset rather than being developed during construction.
Following this process, Premis was appointed Managing Contractor for the delivery of the project, leveraging the team’s experience in live healthcare environments and ability to deliver within tight operational and programme constraints.
