Premis was engaged by the Brisbane City Council as the Principal Contractor to deliver an exciting new refurbishment. The main goal was to modernise and maximise the library’s spaces to their full potential so that customers of all ages and interests can continue to enjoy the venue.

There were a range of structural building alterations involved in the refurbishment, including reconfiguring the library’s floor plan and existing spaces to incorporate a new reading lounge, more comfortable seating, and a dedicated children’s library. The existing library floor also stepped down a level, so the existing slab was in-filled to make create one level.

As part of ensuring a more efficient back-of-house area, a new kitchen fit out and new amenities were installed for the staff. New security and ICT installations were also undertaken, including the installation of the latest RFID technology for easy customer borrowing and returns from the library collection. The library also received renewed wall finishes, a paint refresh, air-conditioning and new furniture, shelving, and a drinking fountain. Feature ceiling panels, bamboo ‘tear drop’ feature lighting and new floor finishes were also installed, with the carpet being sourced from Italy. The two meeting rooms were refurbished, with the meeting room walls replaced to ensure improved sound attenuation. Finally, concrete paths were resurfaced with a decorative finish, landscaping was completed, and additional outdoor seating installed.
