Premis successfully delivered a significant redevelopment project for our long-standing client, Ramsay Health Care, under a Design and Construct Contract. This ambitious project involved reconfiguring and partially demolishing and rebuilding the existing footprint to create three state-of-the-art theatres alongside modern ancillary facilities. The primary objective was to enhance the hospital’s capacity and functionality, resulting in a contemporary, efficient, and patient-focused environment.
The project encompassed a full fitout of three modern operating theatres, comprehensive service upgrades across all disciplines including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, and the development of essential ancillary spaces. These included a new reception area, sterile store, PWD-compliant toilets and showers, pre-op and recovery areas, and a medical store. Additionally, a rooftop plant deck was installed with acoustic louvres to minimise noise for surrounding residents, and the existing plant room was upgraded to support the hospital’s enhanced infrastructure.
The project was executed in three carefully planned stages. Stage 1 addressed dislocated spaces by upgrading minor ancillary areas. In Stage 2, one operational theatre was maintained while hoarding containment zones were installed to isolate construction areas, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital operations. Stage 3 involved taking full possession of the site to carry out demolition, rebuild, and a comprehensive fitout.
Challenges included spatial constraints that required innovative coordination to fit modern services within existing ceiling cavities, and geotechnical issues due to the site’s location at the bottom of the water table, necessitating structural redesigns to address soft spots. Operating within a live hospital environment also required complex logistics, extensive communication, and careful planning to minimise disruption while maintaining patient care and safety.
Despite these complexities, Premis successfully delivered the project on the contractual Practical Completion date of 20/12/24. This achievement highlights our capability to execute complex healthcare projects within strict timelines and operational environments. The redevelopment showcases Premis’ ability to achieve client satisfaction, further solidifying our reputation as leaders in healthcare construction.
