Griffith University – Allied Health Building Refurbishment

  • Budget

    $9M

  • Project Size

    2400sqm

  • Timeline

    35 weeks

Premis was commissioned to deliver a three-storey build and refurbishment to the existing five-storey Allied Health Building, located at Griffith University’s Nathan Campus.

The build component involved an addition on the roof podium, and the construction of a three-storey internal stair structure in the atrium of the building linking each floor.

The project was completed in two stages to minimise disruption to staff and students, as the building needed to remain operational throughout the build. Works were undertaken concurrently across all levels of the building, including demolition, structural work and fit-out, to fast-track the project.

Stage 1 consisted of the construction of a new roof and half of the upper floor, the full floor plate of the middle floor and around 30 per cent of the lower floor.

Stage 2 included the refurbishment of the upper floor and 70 per cent of the lower floor. This included the replacement of one of the lifts, a new lift on the north side of the building, and the installation of a 3-storey internal stairwell in the atrium – linking all floors.

Refurbishment works included the fit-out of office suites, studios, and research rooms across two floors, and the creation of another twelve office spaces. Landscaping was also undertaken on the internal courtyard, new amenities installed for all levels, and all electrical and data services upgraded. The existing outdoor area on the roof was built-in and a new roof installed in-between to allow more office space.
