Mooloolaba TAFE – Cyber Security Refurbishment and Upgrade

  • Budget

  • Project Size

    200 sqm

  • Timeline

    20 weeks

Funded under the Queensland Government’s $100 million ‘Equipping TAFE for our Future’ commitment, Mooloolaba TAFE embarked on a fantastic refurbishment project to provide a brand new, high tech, Cyber Security training facility.

More than ever before, Queenslanders need access to skilled, well paid, secure jobs to recover from the global pandemic and to grow the economy.

The new Cyber Security Training Operation Centre is part of a state-wide training initiative that will simulate cyber – attacks, defence, and monitoring. Premis was proud to be the Contractor appointed to bring this facility to life!

Works involved the refurbishment and upgrade of an existing classroom and storeroom located in A Block at the Mooloolaba TAFE campus. The space was converted into two separate classrooms.

The works involved demolition of the existing area including removal of all existing workstations, ceilings, carpet, and wall linings. The area was then fitted out with new workstations, an operable wall, carpet and acoustically rated partitions and ceiling panels. The existing services were modified to support the training facility and the technical requirements, becoming a key feature of the design as part of the exposed ceilings.

A key component of the fit out and new training facility, was a state-of-the-art AV system enabling the extensive practical component of the course to be realised. This centre will help train students in monitoring hacking and triaging web data, testing cyber-attack and defence scenarios and establish new data centres and IT infrastructure. Blue and red coloured Linear lighting was chosen and installed as the long optics distribute the light over a narrower area than with traditional lighting. One classroom will show red and the other blue when training sessions are in play – the blue light represents the attack team and the red the defence team. The rooms are also able to participate in practical sessions with other TAFE’s in Queensland.
