Nathan Campus Site-Wide Civil Services Upgrade

Premis was engaged by Griffith University to deliver the Nathan Campus Site-Wide Civil Services Upgrade, a large-scale, technically complex infrastructure project staged across multiple areas of the operational campus. The project required detailed planning, stakeholder coordination, and precise staging to maintain full campus operations throughout delivery.

The scope included the construction of a new substation and the installation of extensive in-ground services, including high voltage submains, low voltage and communications cabling, and the construction of new high voltage, low voltage, and data pits along key campus corridors. These civil works involved deep excavation, access management and reinstatement within high-traffic pedestrian and vehicle zones, all completed with a strong focus on safety, service continuity and environmental controls.

Premis also delivered upgraded electrical infrastructure, including new main switchboards and sub-boards, along with an expanded plantroom to accommodate mechanical system enhancements. Underground chilled water mains were installed to strengthen the campus cooling network, supported by new hydraulic services that extended the fire services ring main and potable water mains. The works also included new hydrant booster cabinets and two 20,000-litre siphonic water tanks, substantially increasing the site’s rainwater storage capacity.

A major component of the upgrade involved the redevelopment of the campus pump station. This included diversion and demolition of redundant infrastructure, followed by civil and electrical works to improve site access and efficiency. Central to this phase was the installation of a bespoke, multi-pump station system, a one-of-a-kind, high-tech solution purpose-built for Griffith University. The system provides the capability to operate both potable and fire water networks simultaneously, significantly improving reliability, capacity, and resilience across the campus.

To future-proof the network, electronic tracer wire was installed along all new service routes to assist with accurate identification and maintenance of underground infrastructure in the years ahead.
