Premis was called in to take over a theatre expansion project at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital (SCUPH) for Ramsay Health Care. The task was monumental, involving the addition of three new theatres to the hospital. When we took over, the project had been partially completed by another builder. The structure was in place with a frame, roof, walls, and a suspended deck, but it required significant remediation due to non-compliance and mould issues.
The first step was to remove the non-compliant roof and all internal linings, which had been compromised by mould. We also had to remove all existing services to facilitate the necessary remediation work. This included the complete removal and reinstallation of structural steel to meet compliance standards. It was a challenging start, but our expertise in health projects ensured a smooth transition and set the foundation for success.
The project required a full reroofing and the reinstatement of structural steel and fire walls, along with all essential services. The fitout phase was executed in stages starting with Operating Theatres 7 and 8, working around the clock for three months to ensure these theatres became operational on schedule. The next stage involved Operating Theatre 9, which was initially a cold shell but was approved for fitout during the construction of the first two theatres.
Externally, the project included the installation of cladding, the construction of a BOC enclosure with masonry and a precast lid, and an open-air carpark complete with boom gates. Two plant rooms were also built to service the new theatres. Several road closures were required throughout for logistics and safety, coordinating closely with local authorities to minimise disruptions. Despite the challenges, Premis successfully delivered three new, compliant, and fully operational theatres on time. Our team’s experience and strategic problem-solving skills ensured we met the project’s goals, providing high-quality medical facilities that will serve the community for years to come. This project highlights Premis’ expertise in managing highly technical and complex projects.
